After A Decade

Today marks the start of the teenage years of my sister. I realized that the first part of Justin Bieber’s Common Denominator can equate how I value her in my life.

--You’re the light that feeds the sun in my world. I’d face a thousand years of pain for my girl. Out of all the things in life that I could fear, the only thing would hurt me is if you weren’t here. –

Aside from celebrating her A’s life, another blessing was meeting my tito and cousin after 1 decade (10 years) of not seeing each other. To the point that I can’t even recall their faces (we don’t communicate through any social networking sites before, they’ve created a facebook account just recently). I was just so glad that it didn’t need any family member to pass away just to reunite again, I remember our first meeting (I was in Grade 2 by that time) was on the funeral of our grandmother. It flutters my heart seeing the family of my mama complete again.

We only had less than 5 hours to bond and catch up for they need to catch the bus going to Cagayan. We talked, sang, I even showed her the video coverage of my debut. And then, it hit me. The responsibility of being the eldest among us (first cousins), I need to mak sure that we get to bond more often. No hindrances, no distances. I just hope that this would be the last decade that we're going to endure for not seeing each other. This meeting makes my heart so warm. When the time came to say our goodbyes, I can already see the eyes of my mama tearing up but she’s controlling it.

As soon as we got in on the tricycle, her tears fell down saying “Basig di nami magkita”. I promised he that I’m going to work really hard just to provide her transportation and other expenses to visit my tito in IloIlo. This is just one of the moments that fuel me as a student, as an individual I live not only for myself but also for my family. I want to return all the hard work my parents have gone through just to provide our needs. Hopefully with God’s grace & guidance, after a decade I can be someone that they can depend on whatever aspect it may be.

Lesson: Always, always remember your goals in life; it’s a bunch of motivation that would keep you going. And as you continue living your life, never forget the people behind your success and current situation especially your parents. You’ll never know how much pain they’ve gone through and how many sacrifices they’ve suffered just to raise you. Give them what they deserve, give them the best.
